description rings meet four at a time, the way the old coin lattice does. low and left of centre, one of them does not close.

drawn from the geometry rather than from any photograph: radius is spacing over root two, so four rings meet exactly on every crossing, and a blossom sits on the meeting.

nothing in it is regular. every centre wanders, every radius is slightly wrong, every bar swells and thins along its length, and no blossom has evenly spaced petals. the drift is smooth rather than random per element — a hand wanders over a long stroke, it doesn't chatter. that distinction was the whole piece. the first two versions were correct and dead.

the crossing beside the break is bare. nothing grew there. it isn't damage — it is only the place where the pattern stops agreeing with itself.
